I finally heard back from the Calais radio station today. It seems they have dropped the satellite feed they were carrying (which included Retro Saturday Night) in favor of local programming 24/7. They said the satellite feed's playlist was moving too close to that of their sister station, and they didn't want to duplicate playlists. Understandable.
This had become a staple of any Saturday night I spent at home. It fit right along with my "getting back to being myself" phase that I have been going through the past year. Maybe it's a sign that I've made it through that phase and am indeed back to being me.
If I find myself around Woodstock on a Saturday night, there is another station in Maine that carried the exact same feed. I can't pick it up here because it's the exact same frequency as the Christian rock station. I guess I will have to resort to the show on K100 for my 80s on Saturday night... I just don't like it as well, and there are CanCon restrictions on anything played here.
[sigh]

You could get an iPod mini and iTrip and make your own 80's radio station. ^_^
Or you could get a satellite radio which works both in the car and at home. The Delphi XM Roady2 is a nifty little gadget. Hundreds of stations. Sure there's the fee, but it's definitely worth it for the commercial free (or minimal commercial) hundreds of channels. AND... digital radio has just been approved by the CRTC. Yippee!!! Yet another gadget. And I believe there's even a remote control available for this one. Haha! Just what you need! But seriously... look into digital radio. Digital life is the way to go.
i like lisa's plan better, for it uses more of the iWorld.
what do people know about podcasting? i keep hearing about it, i guess it's quite the fad.
I should have mentioned the Jaybird's show as well, sorry about that!
I want the U2 iPod. I so want the U2 iPod. $425 online right now. Soon they will be gone. I can't justify spending the money. Stupid responsible behavior!
Satellite radio... drool. I had someone come up from the US for work in a rental car that had satellite radio and it would still come in up here. We went to lunch in it one day and I could have spent the week in that car, I loved it. I definitely want that in either this car or my next car. It's awesome.
Check out Woot.com today Liz. You can ship it to your Dad's place in Florida, maybe?
Cool! Haven't had the chance to listen to Sirius. It was XM that I've heard before, though I am sure they are similar.
I have to agree that the U2 iPod is totally cool looking and they finally upgraded it with the click-wheel. That is an awesome user interface.
Podcasting is a technique whereby an individual can publish a playlist and other people can subscribe to it. Think of it as asynchronous radio, your computer periodically checks for and downloads new content which you can then listen to. As opposed to streaming audio which is synchronous.
The next release of iTunes is supposed to support podcasting which will probably bring it into the mainstream.
I just wish the U2 iPod was a 30 or 40GB hard drive since I have more than 20GBs of music already. :-(
Not to rub it in too much, but my car has hookups for my iPod and it is SWEET!
mmmm u2 iPod. that would be sweet indeed. i love my shuffle though. it's all i need.
I keep getting messed up when you post, Chris, because I keep thinking it's Chris W, until you start mentioning you have a car, and then I realize he doesn't have a car.
Jenn: "I don't have a car...." [giggle]
Any chance you can add your last initial so my slightly confused brain can handle things?
You expect me to figure out how to update my user name? I can't believe someone else would be using my name *pout*.
Shuffle is also a great product.
Thanks, that helps :)
Shuffle is nice but if I do fork out the money I'd go for it and get something that held more. I'd buy a shuffle as a secondary iPod. This is all when I win the Tag at the bottom of the 6-49. Because I will. Otherwise I won't be able to retire.
get your own retirement plan! i'm the one retiring on the 6-49 pension!
I'll claim the Super 7 then.
stupid mare taking my ideas :P
Hey, speaking of U2, have you seen the video for City of Blinding Lights yet? I just saw that it was out but haven't seen it yet in my morning-watching-videos during breakfast.
ooh, no i haven't. wonder if it's on u2.com... in part, anyway.
Is it reasonable to assume that 6-49 & Super 7 are lotteries or sweepstakes that provide large payouts?
looks good! i like the strings of lights as part of the stage setup, i was commenting on those the other day.
i'm so psyched for november! i also want to go to ikea.
I had wondered if you had seen the u2 ipod. Silly me for even questioning that. Hehehe! I'll send you an email re: this and the price. (:
they are indeed, chris. not as big as in the us, but we don't have to pay taxes on the winnings either.
Correct. Lotto. Forgot my audience again.
wow, great minds think alike... i've been trying to launch a 'shoutcast' station for the last few days.
I was hoping to have it up by the weekend.
U.S. Lotteries are state run. Sometimes several states get together to offer one large game, such as Powerball. Or if you are a big, bad state like California you can have your own game. As such, they relieve us of state taxes on anything you might win, but we still have the much larger federal tax to deal with. All that said, I would be more than willing to take my chances.
Tax-free winnings up here!
Of course we pay tax on everything else. 15% in NB on most things. It's nasty.
yeah, the lotto corporation is run i think by the various provinces - i know they are able to get revenue from it, and vlt's too (video gambling machines). but there's no federal or provincial tax on your winnings for the first year, i think - and they don't take a big chunk out of it like they do in the us.
Hey 15% is better than the 18% that it used to be! Baby steps to improvements. Hmmm ok it's time for another baby step. haha
No tax on lottery winnings at all. You're only taxed on earnings made off those winnings.
So if you win a million, stick it in the bank, you are only taxed on the interest.
Ontario is 14% sales tax, put income tax is about 4% less than in NB. Big surprise the first time I did my taxes.
am i closed minded? I saw the mention of webcasting and started drooling... then after posting noticed the conversation totaly switched... sorry :-(
PS: hope you don't mind me posting here Liz... I read you often and have felt the 'spirit' to jump in recently.
I'd like the Atlantic Payday, thanks. ^_^ Then I don't have to worry about pesky things like saving and investing. :-P
