Decisions, decisions

I am looking over my flight options to Tucson today. I don't have much in the way of options, so it's easy to narrow down the possibilities.

Option #1, I fly AC from here to Phoenix (10h), then it's a 1.5h drive to Tucson

Option #2, I fly Delta out of F'ton to Tucson (11h)

#1 is cheaper and we'll have to rent a car anyway. #2 is more expensive but will eliminate driving for an hour and a half after having flown for 10h. Both have me leaving at the crack of dawn and returning late, though #1 has a bit better times - except for that whole getting to Phoenix and flying out at 9:30am (1.5h drive, plus arrive 2h before flight, so 6am-ish leaving Tucson, as opposed to 4am for #2 to make a 6am flight). I could always stay my last night in Phoenix near the airport as well.

Suggestions?

Fly direct. The last thing you want is a drive when you're tired, after a long day of traveling, in a city/state that you haven't been before.

My $.02 American.

Well, there is no "direct", since it means me driving to Fredericton for a 7:25am flight. But at least I know where I'm going on that end.

Here's a thought for you... Delta has absolutely NO onboard snacks unless you want to pay. Even the snack cookies are pay. You also have to pay for any drinks other than water, tea, or coffee!

Is there not another route you can take - say perhaps through Tulsa or some other such crazy city as a grasshopper?

I do agree with John though. Don't drive on that end. That's just silliness.

I am trying to minimize the time I'm in the air. It's at least 11h, if not more. I could sit all day and try various US cities, but I also don't want too much of a milk run.

Why not SJ to Tuscon? There's a connector flight in Denver. Fly AC the whole way. Saves travelling on both ends.

BTW, doing that is 10.5 hrs out and 13hrs back.

from my experience of flying USA minimize your stops and if you can stay a night and be rested, avoiding insane early morning rises, than do so. After a long flight I am not keen on then driving a car any distance.

My boss just got back from vacation... AC lost his luggage... AGAIN. They lose his luggage almost every time he flies.

It didn't come up with that option for me, I'll have to force it to show me more options. That sounds better though, through Denver.

I did the search right on the AC page. Perhaps it was the day I randomly chose. Wasn't sure of the dates of the trip. Was fairly reasonable - surprisingly so actually - on the Tango and Tango Plus sections.

If you're stuck with the 2 choices you mention, go the Freddy Beach direct route. I haven't flown Delta in years, but they can't be worse than Air Crappy.

Plus, you know the drive to Freddy, even if you have to do it early.

Realistically, you'll be tired either way - either on that end upon arrival, or on this end upon your return and have to drive from Freddy.

My only thing would be that you know the route home from Freddy, you don't really know the route there at night their time, with a time difference making it early morning our time. I'm inclined to drive to F'ton.

I also vote for the F'ton route. Driving an hour or so to F'ton is much easier than driving an hour and half on a highway you've never driven before, in a car you are unfamiliar with.

Yeah, driving on a familiar road to and from Fredericton would be better than driving one you don't know. Less risk of missing exits etc.
